Mildew, Gopher, Rain Coming

But not for a few days.

A lovely east view of Lake Washington, looking toward the Cascade Mountains.

As this season winds down, we are given to vows of doing better next season, while listing the mistakes and surprises that have been noted over the last 4 months.

Included in the plan for next season:
  • New varieties to attempt
  • Varieties tried this season not to be included next
  • Better placement of crops
  • Better timing of seeding and transplanting of starts
  • Better planning of staggered planting
  • Plans to combat gophers and mildew on squash and cucumbers

This powdery mildew appeared on the pumpkins first and spread to the cucumbers. Just taking hold on the newest cucumbers and acorn squash and I intend to dissuade it.

And my pal, Gopher. New strategies will have to be developed.

Newly planted broccoli. Also new Family Room for Gopher and party.

Westie Blogging...

...Shall I annihilate some wee beastie rodents, or is it nap time yet?
La la...

Cucumbers took off after 2 days of rain

More cucumbers in pots

Bell peppers minutes before harvest

These Thai peppers took off last week and there's too many to count on this bush.

Chili rellenos!! Four FAT Anaheim chilis will be stuffed with jack cheese, dipped in batter and fried to perfection by this time tomorrow.

The jalapenos are honking along. Yum

Roma tomatoes taking their time dressed in green...

Finally, Early Girl tomatos starting to turn

Pole beans enjoyed the rain so much that they collapsed the trellis wire.

Can't forget about the Bully Boys. They are starting to turn as well.

Check out my stuffed pig that my human got me at Petco. I shake the crap out of it several times a day. It looks dead for now...

Say, there's my neighbor with his binoculars.
(He thinks I'm an Agent for the Government)

First tomatoes to ripen. Nice photo, Ace, they look more like apples...

And the pole beans seem to all come in at once

This strapping lad has gotten so big, he had to be named. Meet Clarence.
10" Anaheim chili and yet a growing boy.

Handsome bell peppers that may need to be named soon as well

A trio of bush cucumbers. They grow from 0 to picking in very few days.

The original cucumber vine. Have harvested about a dozen so far.

And another recently planted pickling cucumber. Growing very fast.

Acorn squash. Taking its time.

And finally, the Bully Boys. The 3 main vines in the "Patch" have produced about 12 pumpkins so far. Still several blossoms with babys. The Baby Bully Boys.
